As the curtains close on Survivor Series: WarGames, the WWE world turns its attention to the rebranded WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14. This simulcast extravaganza will air simultaneously on NBC and Peacock, marking a departure from the usual premium live events. But what’s in store for this rebooted special, and how will WWE create a must-see show amidst the transition to Netflix? Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens will bring the curtain down, but what about the cards leading up to it?
Expect some massive matches and moments saved for RAW’s January 6, 2025, debut on Netflix, leaving bookers to construct a well-balanced card for Saturday Night’s Main Event. One major event to watch out for is the finals of the Women’s United States title tournament, which will take place on December 14. Predictions are swirling about the remaining matches for this special event.
The Women’s Intercontinental Championship Tournament will kick off on RAW immediately following Survivor Series, with Dakota Kai, Shayna Baszler, and Katana Chance facing off in the first Triple Threat qualifier. Given the Women’s United States Championship tournament will crown its champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event, it makes sense for the other tournament to be represented. Perhaps Dakota Kai will shine and showcase her skills in a high-stakes match.
The Motor City Machine Guns, currently holding the WWE Tag Team titles, might find themselves defending against a Triple Threat of DIY, The Street Profits, and perhaps even a wild card entry. Both DIY and The Street Profits have had several title shots in 2024 and are eager to take the championships off the newest holders. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin obligated themselves to give The Street Profits a rematch, only to be rejected by Johnny Gargano’s failed attempts to reason with them. Ciampa’s outburst, urging Gargano to adapt or perish, highlights the tension and entitlement brewing among these teams.
Shinsuke Nakamura, the newly minted United States Champion, could defend his title against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event. After reappearing with a new character and presentation following a long hiatus, Nakamura’s third US title win was a real surprise. LA Knight will not be pleased about losing to The King of Strong Style’s cunning tactics and will be hell-bent on booking a rematch. If he has to win another match before getting his shot, that could happen on one of SmackDown’s episodes before December 14.
Lastly, IYO SKY deserves a shot at Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship. After winning the #1 Contendership Battle Royal, she has been treading water since WarGames. Booking Morgan vs. SKY will finally get out of the way, allowing Morgan to defend the title against Rhea Ripley on RAW’s debut on Netflix – a blockbuster match that will surely propel ratings. Ripley’s pinning victory over Morgan to win WarGames for her team only adds fuel to the fire.
As the WWE world gears up for this special event, fans can expect a thrilling ride packed with surprises, title shots, and storylines galore. So, what did you think? Did this article help set the stage for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event?
